I still have a permanent scar on my leg from those Huskies, and I love the MT. St. Helens line, but I would still rather take my chances on the Husky vs a killer Zookie. The Maico is at the top of this list for being ridable.

What ever happened to Don Franklin, never see him mentioned?

Same story here Joe, down to the Stingray bicycle. I've got one of those posters in the shop as well!

I lived in Dallas for about 6 months when I was about 5 (1949) and it seems that the 'Red Horse' was the tallest building on the Dallas skyline, the most memorable anyway. Anyways, I do remember it shining at night. We could see it clearly from our…

Yeah Jack, you could see the old horse and the Republic Bank Tower from just about anywhere outside of town when I was a kid. Paul, during my ironworking career( bad career choice) we were working on the telephone building directly across the street…

My dad was a Marine fighter pilot, he said the air was so clear in the 50's you could see this horse lit up at night from north of OKC from 50'000 feet at night.

At one time when i lived in South Oak Cliff i could see this from my frt yard as a kid

Mark, there really has to be a good story attached to this photo.

Hey Mark, I see that you're checkin out Tommy Montgomery's fotos from San Angelo in early 68. The 2 pipe CZ in the fotos is your old 2 piper when it was new and ridden by Ray Shandobbay, the guy we biught it from. I'm still lookin for my pictures of him on it from about the same time. Jimmy Gilmore from San Angelo gave me the pictures also. I'll keep lookin....................JJ

Hey Mark, thanks for the comments. Hope I didn't flood the website with stuff, but just found all these fotos in an old album my boys mom still had ! I guess I'm so glad to have any fotos at all after all these years that I kinda freaked out and posted maybe too many of em. After the fire, I had no pictures at all, so now to find these is sorta overwhelmin to me. Hope you can make it out to the races at Burleson and lets watch Tim whup up on em on my junky little XR100 that I built last year out of 4-5 junker XRs. And hope you make it to the year end banquet too. It's always real nice to go to. My hip deal is going real good, altho there is still a little pain there. I guess yhat's to be expected, especially when you consider the extreme (to me anyhow) procedures they go thru puttin one of them things in ! But it will be worth it in the long run. I'm sure glad I went and had it done. The pain from the wore out joint was gettin pretty severe at times. Good to keep hearin from you Mark. I love you bro.

And oh yeah, the 63 Ford pickup project is definately on the back burner. Front and rear suspension is now done, block is on the engine stand, ready to assemble.Trans is ready, but it's all gotta wait now. Along with my 54 Merc station wagon rat rod, 54 Ariel 350 single bike, and various other projects. I suffer from a terminal illiness that I will probably carry to my grave, and that's gettin way too many projects goin at one time. Oh well, I probably wouldn't be happy any other way.

Hey thanks Mark. You and Ed were there when I was only wishin I could get there. I met you at the Stump Jumpers where you smoked the 125 class on your Penton and Ed flipped his 250 Husky that day bending the frame rear section. I was still wrestlin with my Ossa, tryin to get it to handle with a 21" Jawa front wheel. Got me a 2 piper CZ later on and away we went. Bonded into a friendship that is as good or better today than it was 41 years ago. Our trip to Wichita, Kansas to get our first glimpse of the masters themselves in the flesh. The Historic Dallas Inter-Am. Our ill-fated trip to Sadleback in June 69. Our weekends out at lake Dallas riding the gravelpits. Do you remember the day I nearly rode over the edge of the 20' hole they had dug into our 4th gear strait ? Fond memories indeed. We aint done yet Mark. It only gets better.

Hey Mark, sorry to not get back to you any sooner. They put my new hip joint in on Tue. Oct 13. They had me up walkin the very next day! Got out of the hosp on Fri. The physical thearapy is going well, I seem to get a little stronger every day, and the exercises get a little easier to do. 6to8 wks the Doc says till I toss the walker. Just gotta be patient and take it easy. Probably been drivin everyone nuts with my stupid remarks on the web site here. Ah, you know how it is when you get too much time on your hands and get bored. Then you get to thinkin crazy thoughts, and the computer is right there. Trouble is, everybody else has to suffer through all my stupidness !! Oh well, it could be worse. I could suffer from insomnia and stay on the computer 24-7. Then I'd be barred from this web site for sure !! Keep me in touch with your thoughts of future vintage racing. I could wrench for you again, just like the old days. And I promise I'd try not to screw up too much on your prized vintage mount. Wonder where our old 2 pipers went ? Mine went to Colorado 10 years ago because I couldn't come up with the 1500 bucks the guy wanted for it ! Same guy I sold it to in 1969 when I got my 360! Was totally un-changed, except for a new Nitto rear knobby put on years ago. Yours went to a cycle salvage shop in FW in 73. A guy brought it by my house and said he wanted 75 bucks for it, but Weinert, who was stayin with me at the time offered the guy 25 bucks for it and the guy got pissed off and left and I never saw it again !! Thanks, Jimmy! Oh well, I'd probably sold it several years later for enough money to buy some more paper diapers or something. Keep in touch...............JJ

dear God..., is this a rotary "Zed"? please don't let Jack see it! it does appear to be one of the early CZ "monoshock" models with the suspension mounted there between the horn, and below the tank. ; ) sparkplugs?

This could be a '76, even a '77 model, I think. Haslet Joe has a '77 on the stand right now, and it looks just like it. His has leading axle forks, but his manual says it came with straight legs. New fenders installed by yours truly, and yes, they a…

It must be fast because the front motor mount was engineered for the extreme Greeves power. I believe MKA went to school was Charlie Greeves and will have something German to say on the subject. Martin "poking the bear" Brazil
