If you have machine services, welding talent, can powder-coat, own available shop equipment, have restoration expertise, or maybe just a hot tip or two, then tell it here !

Does anyone out there remember how much fork oil goes in the 1980 Honda CR125? Clymer says 287 cc but that feels to soft and I heard it top out. Thanx: Partaw

Paul
Not sure how the cost is these days. You might want to research stereolithograhy and investment casting.

Thanks Danny,
If you could get me the contact info and I'll pass it on. My email is

I remember JR quoting me about $15K for the tooling to make a CR intake manifold like the 76 & later. How did they retail them in the 70's for about $20?

The cost is about half to do it in Taiwan but we can get it done in China now for almost half of Taiwan with decent quality contol now.
Here's a pic of the scooter we just commisioned that I tried to get our Taiwanese factory to do for years but they estimated the start up cost in the 350-400K range !

Paul, I work with a small tool & die shop who does outstanding work and is usually much cheaper then most shops. The also do injection molding, but not metal castings. There's another small foundry in the area that I could check with about castings. As you probably already know, it's the tooling that costs.
Paul Burnett Comment by Paul Burnett on January 16, 2009 at 11:42am
Is JR's old shop in business? I have a friend that wants to make some MC related repop's of plastic, rubber and some metal castings and doesn't want to do it off shore.
Does anyone else have the tool & die, injection and casting contacts for small runs, don't really know the qty.

That 1980 Carlsbad USGP was awesome! Moate's second moto holeshot was wild as all get out - inside and super fast. In the early eighties those big bore YZ's were hard to beat.

This to me is one of those classic vintage moments because you are close enough to be in the picture and feel the energy. A natural terrain track, good dirt, Marty Moates cranking it on, dragging a toe and hangin' it out. I always liked to keep up...

How the #@%& do you get the fork cap off the 77 CR 125 ? It has a cap that will push down about 1/4 in to barely expose a spring clip that has no bend or resess to get an awl behind it. I can not hold down the cap with one hand and try to work und...
