OK, I'll put the fire to the fuse on this one. I expect some good stories. just remember, it's a "family forum" here (I'm talkin' to you, Partain!). some statutes of limitations may still be in effect. the possibilities are endlesss!
I've heard stories of Joel Robert throwing hands-full of firecrackers into campfires at the 70' or 71' Tulsa Inter-AM. I've seen Barry Don Callaway crawl out of an overturned Lake Whitney outhouse (Kent Smith, Monty Rosser, Roger Bayless, and Don Owenby were co-incidentally nearby, as I recall.) I've participated in the "Coleman Camping Products" (2 coolers with 2 lanterns as corner markers!) flatttrack championship races at a Whitney Trans-AMA, on the flat just below the hillclimb......, at 2:30 AM Sunday morning!

Let er' rip!

Anytime one of Skip Miller's Pentons falls off of a trailer or a bikestand. This occurs about 3 times a year, most recently at N40.

The mayhem begins when Skip discovers the mishap. Nearby objects become projectiles. Expletives boom across the paddock, as grown men scurry for cover.

now, that's funny!

Anyone remember the parties at the Whitney trans-am? (78 i think) Me and Greenhill set up camp early Friday Morning in his motorhome, 4 kegs in tow, with a PRIME camping spot right between the big uphill/downhill and finish line. They had just replaced the old wood picket fences around the track with the new bright yellow snow fences and we found the stockpile of the old picket fences. A roll, stood about 5 feet high and made for exellent bonfires all weekend! We burned up every stick of the old wood fences with nothing left but a big pile of wire the next morning. There was an AWESOME air guitar performance with 2 crazy, WASTED guys standing on top of a picnic table set in the middle of the fire that would have made the Motor City Madman himself envious! Robbie Pannell brought his bing carboratur that had been crafted into an ingenious "smoking apporratus". WHAT A PARTY!

At Saddleback in about 1974, Rex Staten took out Kenny Zhart on a Bultaco, and Kenny couldn't finish the race so he went back to the pits. Kenny was a pretty likeable guy and he always had a bunch of friends with him, so they started throwing rocks at Staten when he would come by. After the race Rex went after Kenny and his friends, and there was a big to do in the pits, cooler heads finally prevailed.

I don't know that I'd be poking a bear with a stick(Kenny), Rex probably had twice the muscle mass, didn't he?

Rex was a bad ass. It was Kenny's friends that were throwing the rocks. After the race they all went back over to Kenny's van, and that's where Rex went to confront them. Kenny was a little skinny guy, Rex was skinny but tall and solid. My dad and I were pitted next to the track so we saw them throwing rocks and yelling at Rex. We were pitted just across from Zharts van, so we saw the after race action also. Rex had altercations with several riders over the years. The funny thing is, today Rex is one of the nicest, friendliest ex-stars you could ever meet, but back then he would do what ever it took to pass someone.

Rick, didn't Rex punch Vic Allan at Carlsbad one year, after the two of them collided and fell off?

Does anybody remember Mark Keech(sp)? Bultaco man. I don't remember who was in his posse but he told me a story years ago of leaving Whitney campgrounds Sat nite( not sure what big race) and heading back into the town and sneaking
into the auto wrecking yard and either geting caught or narrowly missing arrest. Somebody hep me with the details!!!

There was a pretty famous picture of them rolling around on the track, duking it out.
